I was born three months early, next month I turn eiehtegn. I know my parents treasure the images they have of me in the NICU, testament to the miracle that was preformed. I’ve been praying about getting involved with our local network of photographers that takes pictures of babies in the NICU, and after happening upon your post, I think I know His answer

@PitBullLover – You should be safe on the twin thing :)Fraternal twins can run in families because there’s a gene that causes women to release more than one egg during a regular cycle. So your husband’s sister likely has a better-than-average chance of having fraternal twins, but you wouldn’t.

        Hi Mutia @PitBullLover,

As to date, there is not enough scientific research to prove there is a gene that causes some women to drop an extra egg during her regular cycle. However, some women can release more than one egg that can become fertilized.

In some cases, the eggs can drop up to a couple weeks apart forming a fraternal twin that is smaller and younger than the other twin and twins from different fathers. Read more here.

        Hope this helps!

I’m a twin! I have an identical sister…though I’m not 100% sure if we’re identical or not. Back when we were born things were a bit less sophisticated as to how they determined if you were identical or fraternal and wasn’t always accurate. We always believed that we were, so I’m happy to keep thinking it! The weird thing is that on my mother’s side there are seven sets of twins – all same sex sets and believed to be identical. But when I read about this, I read that identical twins are not hereditary, only fraternal are. So either we’re all actually fraternal and the doctors were wrong in every case or there’s something strange going on in my family! Either way, I’d love to have twins. It was so fun growing up as one! We’re not TTC yet, but I will definitely be excited about that possibility 🙂
